We service commercial, residential, and rental properties, as well assisting you in case of a vehicle lockout. Tim Kelly , owner/locksmithWhy do I need a locksmith? Can't I change the locks on my home myself? Certainly! Hardware and home improvement stores offer a variety of residential knobs and lock sets, which can be installed by someone with the right tools, and moderate handyman skills.
- A locksmith, however, can not only install high-quality knobs and locks on all of your home's doors, he can also key them so that they all operate on a single key. No more trying to remember which key opens the garage, back door or the front door.
- If your key-in-knob lock breaks, but your deadbolt is still functional, a locksmith can install a new knob, and key it so that it and the deadbolt use the same key.
- Do all your exterior doors (including the one to the garage) have deadbolts? A locksmith has all the tools and skills needed to drill your door correctly and install a deadbolt--something most do-it-yourselfers are reluctant to try themselves.
- A locksmith also carries a variety of products which are not typically available on the mass market, such as commercial-grade locks and knob sets (built to withstand high traffic usage), code or combination door locks (never be locked out of your house again!), and a variety of sercurity upgrade products to make your house more difficult to break into.
- Locked out of your home? In most cases we can get you back into you home with no damage to your existing locks.
I’ve already been broken into, why upgrade my doors and locks now? Many houses whuich have been broken into will be targeted by the same thieves a second time. This is because they are already familiar with your house, when you will or won't be home, what you have, and how easy it is to get into. Some smart thieves will wait a month or two after hitting a house to go back a second time, knowing you will have recently replaced everything they stole the first time! A Locksmith can install higher quality deadbolts, door reinforcement plates, and door jamb armor to make your house much harder to break into. I'm locked out of my car. Won't the police help me get in? Perhaps. Most municipalities have stopped offering this service due to the complexities of modern vehicles, and liability issues arising from damage to electric and electronic components inside the car door. Also, many Police and Sherriff’s departments do not have the correct tools and training for this type of service. Locksmiths have an extensive lockout tool kit, and manuals that detail the correct entry method for just about every make and model of vehicle on the road today. Why should I use you when there are so many other locksmiths in the phone book? Beware of "Scammers"! This subject has been much in the news lately. There are actually only a few legitimate, licensed locksmiths in Middle Tennessee. While the phone book may appear to be full of locksmiths, many of these "companies" are actually one or two companies with a call center or answering service often located in another state! They may very well dispatch a licensed locksmith, but you will typically pay more than if you contracted with a locksmith on your own. There are other problems that often arise from dealing with these interstate businesses: If you are locked out of your house, a professional locksmith will always spend an adequate amount of time trying to pick or bypass your locks --thus saving you the expense of replacing your locks. Many fly-by-night and interstate companies, especially those employing people who are not licensed, will spend little, if any time trying to pick or bypass your locks. Instead, they will drill it out and then replace it, often without your prior approval and often at highly inflated rates. Many will quote you one price, then when they arrive, they will say that your situation is different, or more difficult, and change the price --often to two, three and even four times the amount you were originally quoted! And if you refuse the new price, they will insist you pay their trip charge, and may use threatening or intimidating tactics if you refuse to pay it. Sometimes despite, his best efforts, a locksmith will have to drill or otherwise destroy a lock to get you back in your house. This should be the exception rather than the rule, and only happen after diligent efforts using non-destructive entry techniques. Because many of these businesses operate under a variety of names, or out of state, it can be hard to lodge a complaint against them with the Better Business Bureau or the State Attorney General. Many of these companies will not service addresses outside of Nashville and its suburbs, or will charge you an arm-and-a-leg for the trip charge. Local, reputable locksmiths will:
- have a local phone number (they may also have a toll free number, but they will always have a local number);
- have a local address. Not all locksmiths have a store, but all local locksmiths can tell you where they are based. They will be familiar with cities and towns in their service area. (If someone says they service the Murfreesboro area, but they've never heard of Eagleville, be suspicious; they're probably not local!)
- have a website with their local address and phone number on it, as well as a picture of their technicians--this way you can confirm that the person who comes to your house really works for that business.
Remember...
You are inviting a locksmith into your home, and giving him complete access to everything you own. Make sure you only hire a reputable, licensed locksmith!
